Slipcases were born with the VHS market, and would die with it several decades later. Not much is to be said about the slipcase except that they were the most practical way to create covers. Most of the largest U.S. distributors at the time relied on this sort of packaging: Media Home Entertainment, Prism Entertainment, Vestron Video, etc. These distributors were usually (although not always) releasing films familiar to the general public, so resorting to large display boxes were not necessary (with the exception of clamshells).
