Grabbed 7 80s clamshells at various thrift strores (it was 1\2 price day at goodwill). Got the following

1. Father Goose, Republic, 1986

2. Every Girl Should Be Married, RKO Home Video, 1984

3. Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, MGM/UA, 1986

4. Brigadoon, MGM/UA, 1986

5. Botany Bay, Kartes Video Communications, 1986

6. Around the World in 80 Days, Warner, 1983, 2-tape set

7. Mame, Warner, 1984

I also found 2 sets (12 total) of tapes that are for learning a language. One set is for German an the other for French. I am guessing that they are for a college or high school course. It still suprises me, the oddities I find. I wasn't aware that RKO distributed their own stuff (Every Girl).

I got this Stephen King set at a garage sale (= yard sale in the US, I think), it was released by Time Life. Unusual to see a set with movies from different distributers and film makers.

Interesting...never knew there were that many late era VHS releases. I would assume only a small portion of movies released to home video after the beginning of 2005 were actually released to VHS and DVD.

This should act as a handy guide to most, if not all the 2005 releases known on VHS...

I acquired these yesterday:

Angus

Grandview, USA (1989 CBS/Fox release)

The Red Balloon (Nelson reprint of Children's Treasures release)

The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: There's No Camp Like Home

The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald: The Visitors from Outer Space

The Emperor's New Groove (Like the regular release with the same catalog number, but this release is in a "hard clamshell", like the Disney UK releases, but black instead of clear, and the back cover is missing the UPC. I believe this release was made for Hollywood Video.)

Alice in Wonderland (One of the 1986 releases, April 30 to be exact, but this isn't an ordinary release. It is a white clamshell with removable artwork, but the spine is the most unique thing about it. There are three elements on the spine. 1. Walt Disney Home Video in red text 2. The title of the movie, and 3. The Classics black diamond. Similar to my copy of Pinocchio.)

Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (FACTORY SEALED!!!)

I've heard of Buena Vista doing the harder clamshells for some releases in 1998-99, notably Six Days Seven Nights, 54, Mafia... I had no idea they were still doing that in 2001...

@CalzoneManiac

Me neither. I think these were special rental releases specifically for Hollywood Video, like the slipcover releases for Atlantis, Monsters' Inc. and Treasure Planet. It is the hard clamshell, but those you listed are like the Anchor Bay type of cases...

The tapes contain the same trailer reels and the movie you get in the retail version, but different, special packaging.

Great finds. I used to have a Madox-01 and a Phantom Quest Corps tape before I donated them as part of a huge lot. I'd love to see some of those scanned and submitted. Do some of these happen to be cutboxes?

The only cut box is Charge of the Model Ts. The anime is mostly in mint cond. Been looking for several of those tapes from Pioneer for a long time. It's going to take forever to get my collection uploaded when they get the site fixxed, I've got like 800 tapes now not in the database (mostly anime and cartoons).

Well, I figured out why I'd never heard of or seen a copy of Cowboy Bebop: The Move on VHS . . . it wasn't released on tape. When I purchased the lot that contained this tape, the seller only posted pics of the spines. When I looked at the cover today I realized that it is a promotional copy. Even better, it's a gatefold box. It even says on the box that the upcoming release is for DVD, no mention of VHS.

Almost forgot, I got an original copy of Watcher in the Woods a few weeks back. It has the original insert, but it's not in the original case, and its an ex-rental. Still glad I found it. Just got lucky, it somehow got underneath a bunch of cassette multipacks, which I decided to dig through.

Got the following:

1. The Smurfs and the Magic Fute, Children's Video Library/ Vestron

2. The World of Hans Cristian Anderson, RCA Magic Window (this is actually a very rare anime disguised as a cartoon)

3. Silent Madness, MEDIA

4. Slaughterhouse

5. Summer Camp Nightmare, Embassy

6. Slumber Party Massacre

7. Slumber Party Massacre II, Embassy

8. Sorority House Massacre

The horror I got to resell; the guy I bought it off of dindn't have horror in the listing title, so I got the entire lot for the minimum. I am very pleased about the Hans Christian tape. It turns out that RCA released 8 or 9 anime through their magic Window Label. Some are more common like Panda's Adventures, but others are pretty much impossible to find, such as Ringing Bells. I think I'm going to try getting ahold of all of them.
