Additional Information
Release Date: August 12, 1983
Distributor: Paramount
Boxoffice: $2,443,487
August 1983 will go down in history as the month that saw the initial releases of some of the worst movies of the 80s...if not of all time.
The month started promsisingly with the sleeper and now bonafide classic , RISKY BUSINESS opening. The following 3 weeks saw SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT III, THE MAN WHO WASNT THERE, THE CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER ,YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE,METALSTORM and HERCULES all open. All bombed , but each was responsible for the foremost accomplishment of VHS -a movies afterlife after it tanks at the boxoffice.
Trivia: It was a 3D Summer in 1983, but it only lasted a 2 year period-tops. Unlike todays 3D boom (itself dying down), the 80s 3D was nothing special.
1) Name two 3D movies of the 50s that were rereleased wide by a major studio in the Spring of 1983 to great boxoffice?
2) Which movie is considered the one that started the 80s 3D boom?
3) Name the first 3D film to be Oscar nominated?
4)Name the only 3D documentary nominated for an Oscar?
5)Before James Cameron for AVATAR and Ang Lee for LIFE OF PI, what other director was nominated for Best Director by the Directors Guild of America for a 3D FILM?
