Distrib: Cannon Films
Cannon Films had their heydey in the mid 80s. After its breakthrough hit BREAKIN' grossed just over $38,000,000 at the beginning of Summer in 1984 (the equivalent to over $90,000,000 today), Cannon announced a huge slate of films for the next five years.
They had so many releases per year that they would send out 2 to 3 in one weekend in limited release. For instance on April 12, 1985 THUNDER ALLEY, MATA HARI and THE STORY OF "O" PART 2 were released simultaneously to different regions of the country. None of them did very well but it was all a lead up to the very profital homevideo market.
They mixed genre pictures with prestige pictures and had great success.
