This sleepy May/December romance was a boxoffice dud. 1979 was proclaimed by Time Magazine to be The Summer of Horror (near 1 dozen horror films opened that Summer). But two other trends emerged that year- The Gang film (appx 1/2 dozen) and the Sports film-of which PLAYERS was one of nearly one dozen.
